Would You Hire An AI Agent?

Dear Reader,
I have friends on all sides of the artificial intelligence debate: tech optimists who swear by its revolutionary potential, and sceptics who worry that AI spells the end of creativity and even humanity.
And yet, almost all of them use some form of AI. At work. At home. Often without thinking about it.
Though many of us trace the AI boom to 2022, when OpenAI released ChatGPT to the public, platforms like Instagram, Netflix and YouTube have used AI for years, quietly shaping what we watch, read and scroll past.
Today, both generative and background AI systems are everywhere—from hospitals and banks to consultancies and media companies.
The next wave in the AI revolution, say experts, is something called agentic AI.
Where generative AI assists us, agentic AI acts.
Say, you’re planning a trip. Tools like ChatGPT can help you find cheap flights or build an itinerary. An agentic AI, on the other hand, can scan your calendar, compare prices, book tickets, reserve hotels and remind you when to leave, all on its own.
The upside is convenience.
Fewer clicks. Fewer decisions. Less friction.
The downside?
A significant loss of control.
What happens if the AI hallucinates?
What if you ‘AI agent’ books your resort in a completely different country? Your hard-earned money is gone. And who’s responsible then?
In the latest episode of The Signal Brief, we delve into what agentic AI is and what its rise means for consumers.

Thanks for listening, and have a good weekend.
Best,
